Privacy commissioner Elizabeth Denham began investigating the BCLC following a privacy breach in which the account information of some Playnow.com users became visible to other players. The privacy breach happened on July 15, the same day as the launch of an expanded version of the site offering casino games like craps, roulette, and slots. The B.C. Lottery Corp.will not reactivate the website until an independent third-party review of the system is completed,” reads a news release from the commissioner’s office on July 27. “This expert third-party security review is currently underway.” The gaming site will also stay deactivated until the commissioner “is satisfied privacy will be fully protected in the service”, according to the release. A public report is expected to be delivered once the investigation is over. |

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation's online casino, Playnow.com, will remain offline pending an independent review of the site, according to the province’s information and privacy commissioner.
